On a recent weekend away we found ourselves in the tiny township of Ophir, in Central Otago. I'd been there before, with our daughter, on a winter photography road trip, but my husband hadn't had the pleasure. In winter it was freezing, but this time, in summer, it was gorgeous. Look at that blue sky. We didn't see a cloud all day.
The area has enjoyed a tourist boom with the Rail Trail bringing visitors from all over the world to see the spectacular landscape. You can stay the night or just stop for a break at Pitches Store in Ophir. We were passing through, so a coffee, a hot chocolate and two fabulous strawberry muffins kept us going for the next part of our journey.
The cafe had just opened for the day and the muffins were still warm under a big glass cover. There was a nice looking selection of other goodies for those wanting something more too. The welcome we received was very warm, and it was no surprise that the place filled up quickly.
Nice looking car outside too.
